Surabaya - சுராபாயா

Dear Readers,

சுறாபாயா (சுராபாயா) – கிழக்கு ஜாவா தீவில் உள்ள மிக பெரிய ஊர். கடலும் கடல் சார்ந்த் இடம். சென்னை மாதிரி வெயில். ஆனால் அமைதியான இடம். நல்ல மக்கள், காற்று (இன்னும் மாசுபட), நல்ல அமைதியான சூழல்.

சுராபாயா அல்லது சுரபாயா என்ற பெயர் சுறா மற்றும் பயா அதாவது நீர் மற்றும் நிலம் என்றும் அர்த்தம்.

இங்கு ஆச்சரியமான விசயம் என்ன என்றால் இந்த இரு வார்த்தைகள் தமிழ் மற்றும் ஸ்மஸ்கிரித்தில் வாழக்கில் உள்ள வார்த்தைகள். இன்றும் தமிழில் “சுரா மீன்” அன்றாட உபயோகத்தில் உள்ள வார்த்தைகள்.

மற்ற ஓரு அர்த்தம் –
சுறா – நீர் – வாழ்க்கை
பயா – நிலம் – விதி (சூழல்கள், இன்பம் மற்றும் துன்பம்)

அதாவது வாழ்க்கையில் வரும் இன்பம் மற்றும் துன்பங்கலை பிரதிபலிக்கிர இடம். கிழோ உள்ள படம் சுராபாயா – வின் சிம்பல்.

எனக்கு ஆச்சரியமான விசயம், எப்படி நம்ப ஆளு (அல்லது தமிழ் மொழி) இங்கு வந்தது.





Surabaya - the second biggest city (after Jakarta) in java island is Surabaya. If you are Indonesian I am sure that you know the meaning of Surabaya.

Sura means fish and baya means crocodile, Fish represents the sea and baya land, means the place where the sea and land meets.

Another interesting interpretation is that fish represents the life and baya represents danger thus forming the meaning of life facing unknown dangers / struggles.
The interesting thing here is both words found in south Indian language and still being used in conversation.

The "sura" in tamil means the shark fish and the "baya" means crocodile though this word seems to originate from Sanskrit and we all know both languages are heavily inter connected.

The relation between south Indian kings and their history of them ruling Indonesia will have more insights if the link between this Javanese language and south Indian language explored further in details.
How this language brought to the Indonesian people. Language came first or South Indian Kings bring the languages & culture here?

There is another city near Surabaya named Malang was the capital of Hindu king Sanjaya .
What about his ancestors? When Hinduism is brought to Indoneisa?
There are some Sanskrit inscriptions written found in these places. I believe a study on the relationship between the languages could reveal lot more about Indonesian people and their heritages.
